The series began in 1999 with the release of Capcom vs SNK: Millennium Fight 2000, which was followed by several sequels and spin-offs.     The History of Capcom vs SNK

    Capcom and SNK are two Japanese video game developers that have been rivals since the 1980s. Both companies have produced some of the most iconic and successful fighting games in history, such as Street Fighter, Final Fight, Darkstalkers, and Marvel vs Capcom for Capcom, and The King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown, and Metal Slug for SNK. The idea of a crossover between the two companies was a dream come true for many fans, but it was also a challenge to make it happen.

    The first attempt to create a Capcom vs SNK game was in 1996, when SNK approached Capcom with a proposal to collaborate on a fighting game for the Neo Geo arcade system. However, the project was cancelled due to various reasons, such as licensing issues, hardware limitations, and creative differences. The two companies did not give up on the idea, though, and in 1999 they announced that they had reached an agreement to produce two Capcom vs SNK games: one developed by Capcom for the Sega NAOMI arcade system and the Dreamcast console, and one developed by SNK for the Neo Geo arcade system and the Neo Geo CD console.

    The first game to be released was Capcom vs SNK: Millennium Fight 2000, which came out in August 2000 for arcades and in November 2000 for Dreamcast. The game featured 28 playable characters from both companies, such as Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Zangief, Morrigan, Akuma, Sakura, Dan, M. Bison (Vega), Sagat, Balrog (M. Bison), Cammy (Capcom), Kyo Kusanagi, Terry Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Ryo Sakazaki,
    Kim Kaphwan, Yuri Sakazaki,
    Iori Yagami,
    Rugal Bernstein,
    Nakoruru,
    Haohmaru,
    Vice,
    Mature,
    Raiden (SNK). The game also introduced two original characters: Evil Ryu (a dark version of Ryu) and Orochi Iori (a berserk version of Iori). The game used a ratio system that allowed players to choose up to four characters per team depending on their strength. The game also featured two different fighting styles: Capcom Groove and SNK Groove,
    which affected the gameplay mechanics such as super moves,

    The second game to be released was SNK vs Capcom: The Match of the Millennium,

    but also added three different fighting styles: Advanced Mode (based on The King of Fighters),
    Extra Mode (based on Fatal Fury),
    and Mixed Mode (a combination of both). The game also featured various mini-games and modes that referenced other games from both companies.
