How to use Dropbox links to share files and folders

Dropbox is a cloud storage service that lets you store and access your files from anywhere. One of the features of Dropbox is that you can create links to any file or folder in your account and share them with anyone, even if they don’t have a Dropbox account.

In this article, we will show you how to use Dropbox links to share files and folders with others, and how to manage the access and permissions of your links.

How to create a Dropbox link

To create a Dropbox link, follow these steps:

    1. Sign in to your Dropbox account on the web or open the Dropbox app on your device.
    2. Navigate to the file or folder you want to share and select it.
    3. Click or tap on the Share button. A pop-up window will appear.
    4. Click or tap on Create a link. A link will be generated and copied to your clipboard.
    5. Paste the link wherever you want to share it, such as an email, a message, or a social media post.

Note: You can also right-click on a file or folder in your Dropbox account and select Copy Dropbox link to create and copy a link directly.

How to manage your Dropbox links

You can manage your Dropbox links from the Links page on the web or the Shared tab on the app. Here you can see all the links you have created, as well as their details, such as the name, size, date, and number of views of the file or folder.

You can also change the access and permissions of your links from this page. To do so, follow these steps:

    1. Sign in to your Dropbox account on the web or open the Dropbox app on your device.
    2. Go to the Links page on the web or the Shared tab on the app.
    3. Select the link you want to manage and click or tap on the Settings icon. A pop-up window will appear.
    4. From here, you can do the following:
      • Edit link settings: You can change the name of the link, add a password, set an expiration date, or disable downloads for the link.
      • Edit access settings: You can change who can view or edit the file or folder through the link. You can choose from Anyone with the link, Only people with a password, or Only people in your team (for Dropbox Business users).
      • Delete link: You can delete the link and stop sharing the file or folder. The file or folder will remain in your Dropbox account, but anyone who tries to access the link will see an error message.
    5. Click or tap on Save to apply your changes.

Note: You can also manage your links from the Share button on each file or folder. Just click or tap on Edit link settings or Edit access settings from the pop-up window.
